For Indian cinema, the budget is of a primary concern for the makers because the revenue is less. Many films turn flop, meaning that they could not extract even the budget part from the movie collection. While in Hollywood, the budget is not of much concern, because the earnings are enormous. Let’s take the examples of hot films these days – The Avengers, Ant Man & the Wasp, Black Panther, Incredibles 2, Deadpool 2, Jurassic World – Fallen Kingdom, and so on. All these films are made on budgets exceeding $150 Million, and the best part is that these movies recover their cost in just the 1st weekend of their run. Rest of the run ensures how much success comes in their way and where do they stand in most successful movies list.

Why Indian movies do not achieve this feat? Why is there such a huge difference? Maybe time will give the answer to this. Apart from normal success, in India most of the times, the budget allotted pre-production gets increased drastically by the end of making due to certain losses or delays. Eventually, the movie and the team suffers big time.

If there were services like PaydayMe for movie producers, then they wouldn’t face so much problems. But borrowing money for movies is a difficult task and people don’t lend so easily.

There have been many cases in Bollywood, where a movie faces a sharp increase in its budget due to the delays. That can happen due to any reason, be it the death of a crew member, delay in getting clearance from CBFC, some protests due to a certain plot of the movie, and so on. A lot of such cases have appeared in the past. Here we will discuss top 3 Bollywood movies which have gone through this ordeal and have resulted in getting their budgets increased.

Padmaavat

This film was originally supposed to release in November 2017. But due to protests by Karni Sena and Rajputs, it kept on delaying further and further, and eventually saw the light in January 2018. The protests were not at all silent. The crew members were hit at many public places, they got hospitalized, their sets were torn down, etc. They even had to cut down on many scenes which had earlier taken a lot of effort and money to shoot. Overall, their budget shot exponentially due to all the losses. But their efforts and pain paid off, even when many states had banned the movie. It emerged to become one of the most successful movies of 2018.

Robot 2.0

This film was supposed to release in Mid 2017. But due to large constraints, it has not seen the light till date. Robot 2.0 is the sequel to Telugu movie Enthiran, (Hindi dubbed – Robot). And in this movie, 2 mega stars of Telugu and Hindi industry are coming together for the first time – Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. It is said to be the biggest budget movie till date, crossing much more than 300 Crores in making. Every delay has kept on increasing its budget, which led to such a huge amount. And now, it has become one of the most awaited movies of 2018.

Ram Leela

Another Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, faced lots of protests from the Rajput community due to the title and the movie content. According to them, certain parts of the movie hurt the sentiments of the community. And so, slogans were raised against the movie and it faced delays in its release. The title was changed, and certain words from the movie were altered to meet the demands of protesters. All this struggle and delay led to an increase in the film’s overall budget.
