Synopsis

Devdas belongs to an extremely wealthy family. When he returns from London after completing his education, he meets Paro, his childhood sweetheart. He decides to marry her. Consequently, his father meets Paro’s mother with full on arrogance. This leads to rift between the 2 families where Dev’s father doesn’t relent. Paro then enters into a marriage with an old but wealthy man. As a result, Dev is shattered and walks to a life of anguish, pain and alcoholism. There he meets Chandramukhi who is passionately in love with him. Such is the fate of Devdas where he can never love one woman and can never stop loving other woman.

Movie Reception

Devdas took the highest opening of the year 2002 and started its journey at the box office on a solid note. The film held well on the weekdays and earned over Rs. 10 crores in its first week. Also, the drop on the second Friday was low and the film collected an excellent amount in the second week.

The drop in the second week was only 30% and it earned over Rs. 8 crores in the theatres. Devdas also remained strong in the third week and attracted a very good number of footfalls to its theatres. In its lifetime, it grossed over Rs. 40 crores in the domestic market and entered Rs. 100 crores club in the worldwide. Devdas was the highest grosser film at the domestic as well as the worldwide level.
