The film is set in the early 80’s and 90’s in Gujarat. Raees opened strongly at the box office and was a non-Friday release. The film did a very good business over its extended first weekend and easily took its first four day total over Rs. 90 crores. The positive word of mouth helped the film to earn well in the theatres and it crossed the mark of Rs. 100 crores in its first week.
However, in the second week, the film dropped and repeated the similar story in the third week. In its lifetime, it only managed to earn Rs. 139 crores at the box office. Raees fared extremely well in the overseas market and collected little below Rs. 300 crores in the theatres.
