Sequel to 2007 blockbuster Welcome, Welcome back is a story of reformed gangster brothers who are on the lookout of a decent groom for their newly found sister. Uday and Majnu have left the underworld and are now big businessmen. When Chandni and Maharani enter their lives, both the boys fall in love with Chandni. On discovering that Uday has a sister, Maharani puts forth the condition to marry off his sister before marrying to Chandni. Now the hunt for suitable and decent groom starts. Problems ensue when his sister falls in love with Ajju, who happens to be another gangster.

Movie Reception

Welcome Back got a good start on its opening day and due to the positive reviews from the critics, it earned over Rs. 50 crores over the first weekend. It also earned decently over the weekdays and took its total over Rs. 70 crores in week 1.

The film fell on the second Friday and fared decently in the second week to take its total over Rs. 90 crores. Despite it fell on a large level in its remaining days at the box office, it managed to collect near Rs. 100 crores. Its overseas collection also crossed Rs. 70 crores which led to a great worldwide total of the film. At the end of its theatrical run, it became the fourth highest Hindi grosser of the year 2015.

Fun Facts & Triva

  • Fardeen Khan was the first choice for the film but he didn't agree to do the film due to his break from the films. Later, John Abraham was signed in his place.
  • Sonakshi Sinha and Asin were approached for the film but they couldn't manage to become the part of the film due to their shooting for other films. Hence, Shruti Haasan was signed for the film.
  • Ankita Srivastava made her debut into the Bollywood with this film.
  • Shiney Ahuja shared the screen with John Abraham after a gap of 10 years. They were earlier seen in Karm in 2005.
  • Amitabh Bachchan was earlier considered for the role but he declined the offer when he came to know about the news that the makers want to sign Rekha opposite him.
  • Rekha was the first choice in place of Dimple Kapadia but she didn't manage to become part of the film.
  • John Abraham's character was inspired by Aamir Khan's character in the movie, Rangeela.
