The story of this serial is set against the backdrop of a village in Gujarat. It mainly revolves around the story of Santu. She is the daughter of a poor man. Due to the poverty & many more worst circumstances, she had to marry a widower who is much elder than her. Initially, it was tough for her to settle with her over-aged husband, Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi. But after so many years of their marriage, they develop a good relation among themselves.

Bandini starts with the story of a village girl who lives a poor yet happy life with her father in the village. Things go wrong for her when her father decides to marry her with his boss, Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi due to the debts. We can say that this serial has raised the issue of forceful marriage of a girl with an elder rich man in order to clear all the debts.
Further, there come many problems in Santu's life as she was unhappy with her marriage. Later, a leap of 10 years is shown in this serial. Now, Santu is quite happy in her life & the story continues with her in-laws.
