The National Award winning actress, Vidya Balan, is all set to come up with her new project. Just like her previous super hit women empowerment movies, this time also she would be seen essaying the women-centric role. She is going to portray our very first and former woman Prime Minister – Indira Gandhi. Whether it would be a movie or a web series, nothing has been disclosed so far.
According to some sources, this would be the first time Vidya Balan would try her luck as a producer for this upcoming biopic. She will also be seen collaborating with her husband Aditya Roy Kapur for the first time. Recently, she was seen playing the role of a housewife in “Tumhari Sulu“. It would be interesting to see her in a yet different avatar in her upcoming biopic.
Biopic to be based on the novel
So far, it is known that the biopic would be based on the book of a journalist cum author ‘Sagarika Ghosh’ which is titled – “Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister”. In this novel, she has mentioned everything from Indira’s personal life to political life. It also states the real motive behind the Emergency in 1975. It would be interesting to see how much of the actual information would be portrayed in the biopic.
The actress has long shown interest to play Indira Gandhi’s role onscreen. And according to some sources, she has already signed up the contract with Sagarika Ghosh. Keeping in mind Indira Gandhi’s role and importance in Indian History, Vidya and the team are leaving no stone unturned to show their excitement.
Previous Biopics on Indira Gandhi
This will not be the first time when Indira Gandhi’s character is being played onscreen. Many movies like Indu Sarkar (2017), 31st October (2016), and Amu (2005) also showed the role of Indira in some way or the other. Only time will tell how Vidya Balan’s essaying of Indira Gandhi is different from her earlier portrayal.
