After the huge success of Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone is set to play yet another role of Rani. She gave a huge blockbuster of the year with Padmaavat, where she played Rani of Mewar, Padmavati. But this time, she will not play some Mughal queen, rather, she will be portraying Sapna Didi, the Mafia Queen of 80s. Vishal Bhardwaj, the 7 time National Award winning director, will direct this movie.
According to the resources, the sizzling actress has already begun her preparations. Afterall, playing the infamous mafia queen, Ashraf Khan, is not a cake walk. In addition, she is also delving deep into getting the right tone and attitude of Sapna Didi.
Ashraf Khan, aka, Sapna Didi was the Mafia Queen of Mumbai Underworld. Yes, you heard it right! There were female Mafias in Mumbai as well. She was a very naive lady when she married a fearful gangster, Kaalia. And she was a very happy housewife. But when her husband was shot dead on the orders of Dawood Ibrahim, the then Mafia Don, she decided to avenge her husband’s death.
Ashraf learned self-defense, firing and other techniques to fight Dawood. And in just a few months, she became one of the dreaded mafia queens of Mumbai. To gain the trust of other gangsters, she changed her name from that of Muslim to Hindu and became Sapna. With her team of gangsters, she succeeded in making deep cuts in Dawood’s business all across Mumbai. But unfortunately, before she could do anything, his men brutally murdered her.
Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone shared an amazing chemistry on screen in the movie Piku. The duo will be seen pairing up yet again in this Vishal Bhardwaj directorial, Rani. Irrfan Khan is playing Ashraf’s husband, the dreaded gangster Kaalia.
