What is Gross Collection?

The total revenue of the Movie from ticket sales is the gross collections. For Example if you went to PVR Cinemas, and bought a ticket for Rs. 230. This Amount will contribute as it is to the Gross Collections. This Amount is inclusive of all taxes.

Worldwide Collections are always compared in Gross Figures due to different tax rates in different countries.

What is Net Collection?

The Collections of a Movie after deducting Entertainment Tax (now GST) gives us the net Collections. On an average this figure is 20-30% lower than the Gross Collection. This is the Actual Revenue of a Film. This amount is then shared between the Theatre Owners, Distributors, Producers.

Some Movies have Gross Collection very close to Net Collection because the govt makes them tax free in many territories.
