CBFC Clears Padmavati – Movie Set to Undergo a Name Change

After a lot of controversies, Padmavati finally got the green signal. Earlier the movie was scheduled to release in December 1st week. It captured the story of the beautiful queen of Chittor, Rani Padmini, and the plunderer, Alauddin Khilji. After going through a lot of trials and speculations, the movie finally got clearance from CBFC. The movie would undergo few cuts and a name change. Post this, people would get to know Padmavati new release date.

What was the controversy?

According to our legends, when Alauddin wrecked havoc on Chittor in 1303 to capture the Queen, Rani Padmavati along with other women of the fort sacrificed their lives to escape the capture. Now in this movie, Deepika plays the queen and Ranveer the plunderer. The previous 2 movies of the duo, RamLeela and Bajirao Mastani, were super hit because of the sizzling chemistry of the couple. To recreate the sizzling effect in this movie as well, rumors spread that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to show a dream sequence between the pair. But this 1 rumor did not go well with the Rajput political groups who refused to let the film run in order to preserve their history. It soon brought doom for the movie Padmavati, resulting in stalling of the film.

CBFC clears Padmavati

The examining committee of CBFC and special panel consisting of members of the Rajput community, historians and academicians from Rajasthan sat together on 28th December to decide the fate of the movie. After viewing the film, they passed it with a U/A certificate. The clearance is subject to some cuts in the movie and change of the name from Padmavati to Padmavat. Some other key modifications have also been shared with Viacom 18 and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The song ‘Ghoomar’ would also undergo some changes to suit the character of Rani Padmavati.

After getting a green signal, the director is now planning Padmavati new release date. Let’s see if Padmavati is able to do better than Bajirao Mastani and Ram Leela or not.
