Padmavat First Day Collections are looking very good

The Could have been blockbuster of 2017 – Padmavati finally released after protests, violence and court cases. The film has taken a very strong opening and is on the course to break records. Now known as Padmaavat, the film is looking to set a record for January opening. The film has been given a solo release with Akshay Kumar postponing Padman to 9th Feb and it presents a lot of opportunity for Padmavat.

Restricted Release in 3 States

Padmavat has not been given a lot of shows in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujrat due to fear of more violence. And many cinema owners are still afraid to release the film. But that doesn’t stop Padmavat from doing major business in the rest of the country.

The film has been given full shows in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Calcutta and many other parts of the country. The controversy has helped the film significantly in creating a buzz. The Thursday paid previews of Padmavat were fantastic and are going to help the film a lot. The reviews are mostly positive but many critics have given a Thumbs down to the film as well. People are a lot curious to see whats in this controversial film.

1st Day Collection Estimates are Huge

The film is clearly eyeing the Rs. 20 crores mark tomorrow if everything goes well. The only thing which can disrupt the performance is a negative word of mouth which is less likely at this initial stage for a major movie.

The film could have gone to a total of Rs. 30 crores net if there were no violent protests. But people in many parts are still scared to book tickets and watch Padmavati in theatres.

Update (11 AM Thursday): The opening is very strong, but a bad news is that film has not been released in the majority of Haryana. Panchkula and Gurugram are the major centres of Haryana still playing the film. This could further affect the collection by 5%.

Final Update: Padmavat first day collection shows good number. The film earned Rs. 5 crores on Wednesday on limited screening. On Thursday, it collected Rs. 19 crores. Hence the total collection of the film stands at Rs. 24 crores. Had it released in a peaceful environment, it would have crossed Rs. 30 crores mark easily.
