This year we have had movies on diverse topics and a wide variety of genre. Amrinder Gill‘s Sarvann was an action packed thriller, while Vekh Barataan Challiyan was a Typical Punjabi Comedy Film.
Punjabi Movies of 2017 at Box Office
The Biggest hit and one of the best Punjabi film of 2017 was Gippy Grewal‘s Manje Bistre. The film collected a staggering Rs. 15 crores net at the Box Office in India, which is a huge figure for Punjabi movies these days. It’s difficult for most pubjabi movies to cross a mere Rs. 10 crores mark at the Indian Box Office.
And not only India, Manje Bistre did fantastic business in the overseas market too. The film was made at a Budget of Rs. 5 crores only, and it did a fantastic 45 crore+ business worldwide. Movies like Manje Bistre help in taking the Punjabi film industry new heights worldwide.
Vekh Barataan Challiyan was another huge box office hit of 2017 as it managed to do 11 crores at the Indian box office. But it was a little weaker when it came to the overseas box office, as its worldwide collection was only around 24 crores. Perhaps, not everybody has the star power of Gippy Grewal in the overseas markets.
VBC & Manje Bistre both were typical comedy movies, but Vekh Barataan Challiyan Received much Better Reviews than Manje Bistre. However, the latter was a bigger hit.
Another Film worth mentioning is Amrinder Gill’s Lahoriye which did remarkable business too. The film collected a strong Rs. 9 crores in India and Around 18 crores worldwide. It was Romantic Drama film and was very well received by the audience and the critics both.
