Toilet – Ek Prem Katha has turned out to be a lifeline during the poor phase of Bollywood this year. The film has managed to establish a mark which other big films like Tubelight and JHMS fail to do. Released on the Independence Day week, the film received positive reviews from all the leading critics which set the foundation for its success at the box office. Earlier, it was expected that there would be a stiff competition between Shahrukh Khan starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha but the story unfolds in a completely surprising manner. JHMS failed to perform well right from its opening day which left the audience with no other option than to watch TEPK.
There are various factors which helped the film to sail smoothly during its Box Office journey till now. Firstly, it released at the time when there was no hit film to compete with it. Secondly, it enjoys the benefit of the Independence Day holiday which really boosts its collection drastically. Although it received some competition from Bareilly Ki Barfi, the positive word of mouth and the film’s breeze of success compensate all the factors against it.
The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar steals the show and the audience highly applauded the comedy element in the film. The tempting factor to attract the audience is its central idea of a serious problem of open-defecation in rural India. It has touched the lives of common people especially women who are still facing problems in the society due to open defecation. The special thing about its performance is the consistency it has managed to maintain till now since its release.
