Aamir Khan’s Dangal has created an unrepresented landmark in China by surpassing One billion Yuan landmark in China, which amounts to about Rs. 1000 crores in Indian currency.It is the 33rd film in the Chinese cinema and also the first Indian film to achieve the feat.This feat is special and rare because China has a special quota for foreign films where the number of Indian films is less in counting.Yet, Dangal has joined the exclusive club of some 32 films in Chinese cinema history that have earned about Rs. 1000 crores. As per the data on ticketing platform Maoyan, the movie raked has earned about 1.067 billion RMB by Thursday.
“Dangal” is about a determined father in a patriarchal society, training his daughters into world class wrestlers.”It is an unprecedented success for an Indian film and an important landmark, making Dangal a superhit Indian film”, said Prasad Shetty, a partner of Strategic Alliance, a Chinese firm promoting Indian films in China.
According to Aamir, the reason for this massive success of Dangal is the emotional connection of Chinese audience with the story, characters and moments of the movie.”I have been reading their reactions on social media. They have been saying things like how the movie moved them and how the characters inspired them so much.It made them realize what their parents went through.Many of them called up their parents and cried.It’s a very emotional reaction. This is what made the film really work.”
“Dangal is still playing in about 9000 screens”, Mr Shetty said. This film has also made Aamir Khan, 52, the most popular Indian star on Chinese social media, where he has over 6.55 lakh followers.
