The first Weekend of 2017 with Major Releases turns out to be a weekend of losers. And amongst these losers, there is one movie losing the most and its Kaalakaandi. Saif Ali’s Dark Comedy failed to impress the audience and show any growth over the weekend. The other two movies did show some impressive growth giving a clear indication of the word of mouth for these films.
Kaalakaandi
The film as expected started on a very slow note. The Footfalls were so less that some of the shows in multiplexes had to be cancelled. Here is how the film’s weekend collection.
- Friday – Rs. 1.25 crores
- Saturday – Rs. 1.20 crores
- Sunday – Rs. 1.25 crores (expected)
- Total – Rs. 3.70 crores net
This is a clear indication that the film stands little chance at the box office. It will not recover its budget and will turn out to be a big loser.
Mukkabaaz
The best performer of this week, even with the lowest start is Mukkabaaz. It started with the lowest first weekend of Rs. 85 Lakhs and almost doubled its collections on Saturday. The Saturday Collection for Mukkabaaz came at Rs. 1.60 crores which is indicating a positive trend for this film.
The Reviews for Mukkabaaz are also positive which are going to help this film a lot. Will Mukkabaaz recover its budget? We will have to see how this film performs on Monday.
Our Prediction is that the film will be able to do a lifetime business greater than Rs. 10 crores in the next 2 weeks.

The Horror Flick – 1921
1921 was the leader of this week with the highest collection and positive trending as well. Like every other horror film, 1921 has also been showered with mixed reviews. The film started with a strong Rs. 1.60 crores net and showed a significant jump and earned Rs. 2.38 crores on Saturday. The Sunday Collection for this film is going to above Rs. 3 crores and the weekend will be the best among all 3 with Rs. 7 crores approx.
This Low budget film is very likely to recover its budget in the coming days. For More updates about these 3 films, keep reading BOTY.
