In the 16th century, the Mughal emperor Akbar agrees to marry the princess Jodha to seal an alliance. Unwilling to be a pawn, Jodha refuses to consummate the marriage unless Akbar makes all religions equal in his empire. Meanwhile, rebellion looms on the horizon.
