She developed the interest for classical singing in her childhood days and on growing up, she decided to choose music as her career. She started her journey on the Indian Television through an Indian singing reality show Indian Idol. She appeared as a contestant in Indian Idol auditions in the season 2004-2005. It is through Indian Idol that she learned every minute details about the filmy music. In this reality show, she mesmerized the audience and the judges through her melodious voice which is why she had managed to enter the list of top six contestants of Indian Idol.
She is Bengali and to make her roots deeper in the Bollywood music industry she had learned Urdu for a time span of 3 years. Presently, she is taking her musical training in Mumbai from Pt. Bhavdeep Jaipurwala.
In her singing career, she has sung in many Bollywood films. She made her debut in the movie Rann through the song “Sikkon Ki Bhook”. Other movies in which she has given her voice are Kumki, Lingaa, Goliyon Ki Rasleela – Ram Leela, and recently she had been part of Baabubali: The Conclusion. She received a lot of admiration for her song “Ang Laga De Re” for the film Ram Leela. Also, her latest romantic song “Veeron Ki Veer aa” was very popular.
