One opportunity turned two and so on. But the song that shot him to fame was “Papa Kehte Hain” from the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. This movie went on to be the biggest hit that year.

His next hit came with the song “Mehendi Lagake Rakhna” from the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. This song won him a Filmfare award for the Best Male Playback singer that year. Udit Narayan & Alka Yagnik have sung many Romantic songs together, and almost all of them were huge hits.

Many people don’t know but in addition to singing he also acted in two Nepali films, namely, Kusume Rumai and Pirati in the year 1985. With three National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards, Udit Narayan stole the hearts of millions across India with unique style of singing.

After 2000 he wasn’t seen much or even sang any songs. In 2002, he again gave us the taste of his melodious voice by singing the song 'Bairi Piya' with Shreya Ghoshal from the film Devdas. In 2008, he made an awesome come back with the song ‘Deewangi deewangi' from the film Om Shanti Om. Udit Narayan Songs are also famous among the youth listeners of today's time.

He surprised us again in the year 2014 with "Naa Hum Jo Kah De" again along with Shreya Ghoshal, for the album Women's Day Special: Spreading Melodies Everywhere. Leaving behind a great legacy he also gave us a talented son Aditya Narayan who is also an inspirational playback singer, actor and television anchor. Recently, he is announced to be awarded Lata Mangeshkar Award by MP government.
