First Quarter Of 2016 (January to March)
The first quarter ranges from January to March witnessed a total of 31 Bollywood releases. However, the first quarter of 2016 brought disappointment for the film makers in terms of box office collections. The three films which were able to prove their ability in the theaters were Kapoor And Sons, Neerja and Airlift. Kapoor & Sons movie turned out to be the best Bollywood film of 2016. This Hindi movie was highly appreciated for its way of storytelling. Also, the role of every character was very realistic which helped the film to connect with the audience easily. This was the best Bollywood movie of 2016 for a family to watch.
Neerja movie fell in the category of inspirational movies. Neerja was an emotional movie and a biopic based on the life of an air-hostess Neerja Bhanot. Sonam Kapoor was applauded for her performance in the lead role. Also, the audience appreciated the performance of Shabana Azmi as Rama Bhanot. The film's music was highly appreciated by the audience.

The movie Fan showed the impact of cinema and movie stars on the lives of common people. This Shah Rukh Khan starrer film portrayed a unique concept and gave a lesson to the society and celebrities.
Udta Punjab was based on the serious issue of drug trafficking across borders in Punjab. This film fell into the well of controversy before its release. It was based on a very delicate socio-political issue. Censor board also inspected the film deeply before its release. It was a satirical movie and the audience appreciated the performance of Shahid Kapoor.
Third And Fourth Quarter Of 2016 (July to December)
In Bollywood industry, most of the high budget films release in the second half of the year for a reason that all the major festivals fall in this segment of the year. And it is what happened. We saw some of the most popular and best Bollywood movies of 2016 in the second half of the year.

Sultan showed the story of courage and struggle in the life of a wrestler. Also, a theme of love was portrayed in an elegant style.
Dear Zindagi was a romantic drama film based on the issues of the young generation and taught the audience some important lessons of life.
Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan's Dangal took a strong stand against the gender inequality in a very different way and enjoyed a handsome box office collections.
