Both the films are completely different films. Padmaavat is based on an epic while Padman portrays a fight against the social issue of menstrual hygiene of women. Also, there is a big difference in the budget of two films. Padmaavat is a big budget film and there is a difference of Rs. 150 crores.
Talking about their box office arrival, Padmaavat faced a lot pointless protest due to Karni Sena. While Padman underwent a change of release date to make Padmaavat a solo release. So Padman arrived at the box office after two weeks from Padmaavat release.
Due to the hype before its release, Padmaavat received a good start at the box office. Also, it enjoyed the benefit of extended first weekend and Republic day holiday to earn over Rs. 100 crores in the first 4 days. Padman showed decent collection on its opening day and showed humongous growth over the next two days to earn over Rs. 40 crores in its first weekend.
Hence, the in the first weekend only Padmaavat earned Rs. 74 crores more than Padman and emerges as a winner.
