In 1947, Tara, a Sikh truck driver in Punjab, meets and falls in love with a wealthy Muslim girl named Sakina. This happens by accident during anti-Muslim riots where he saves, courts and marries her. Years later, Sakina travels to Pakistan to visit her father, now the mayor of a small Pakistan city, for a visit. There, he tries to separate both of them by forcing her into an arranged marriage with a wealthy man. The man is same as of her age and religion.

Gadar Movie was the biggest hit in the History of Bollywood. The film shattered records from Day 1 of its release. Based on the Tragic partition of India and Pakistan this movie managed to collect a huge total of Rs. 77 crores net in the year 2001.
When we consider inflation this figure amounts to a grand total of more than Rs. 450 crores net. But this is not the true figure - if we also include differences like an increase in no. of theaters and different pricing scheme in multiplex and single screens. This figure could touch Rs. 600 crores plus very easily.
The movie received plenty of awards, appreciation and what not! Gadar took Sunny Deol's career to a new peak. He was already established from plenty of successful movies he did in the 1990s.
Gadar's Box office success can also be credited to the blockbuster music of the film. Gadar songs were a huge success even before the movie released.
Gadar film was a big hit and we haven't had another movie like that in over 2 decades now. Gadar's director made another movie "Veer" with Salman Khan, but it wasn't a success at all. Gadar Box Office collections were one of the best in History of Bollywood and still remains a landmark for many movies.
