Because, when the next Friday sets in and some other movie releases – there is a reduction in screen space, the buzz is not that strong and people who wanted to see the film have already seen it.
While Major movies manage to do business beyond the first week if they are supported by positive reviews and a solid word of mouth. But the drops that happen in the second week is bigger than 50% if normal cases.
