Director Anshai Lal’s romantic comedy starring Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh Phillauri was released on March 24 on around 1100 screens. The movie has received a decent response and is expected to do better during the weekend. The movie also stars Mehreen Kaur Pirzada and Suraj Sharma. The actors and actresses have performed well and the music is touching.
Handful critics seem to be unimpressed; they find the movie’s screenplay loose. Phillauri is Anushka’s second project as a producer. There was 20% occupancy throughout the country for the morning shows. The evening shows did much better and got an average response. The highest occupancy was 35% in Punjab and Delhi regions because of Diljit’s fame.
On an average Phillauri’s occupancy was 30% and in domestic box office the movie did a business of 3.75 crore. Although the collections were not as good but since the movie had a budget of 21 crores the first day collections sound decent enough. Satellite and music rights have already got back 12 crores to the stars Anushka and Diljit.
This leaves 9 crores to be recovered from the movie halls. The target doesn’t sound difficult to achieve as the weekend is still there.
